The legislature comes back next week and both opposition parties are demanding new committee hearings into the cancellation of two gas plants in Oakville and Mississauga just ahead of two byelections in Liberal held ridings.
The Tories say they’ll call on Premier Kathleen Wynne and her predecessor Dalton McGuinty to testify – even though Wynne and McGuinty are not legally bound to appear before the all-party committee.
The Liberals have been under fire for what the opposition says were politically-motivated cancellations of the gas plants, which will cost taxpayers at least 230 million dollars.
Wynne has asked the auditor general to add the cancelled gas plant in Oakville to his current probe of the Mississauga project.
But the opposition parties say the auditor doesn’t have the power to get answers to all the questions surrounding the decisions.
